Memory & Emotion : contemporary improvised music exploring ANZAC letters

Acclaimed Australian musicians Sean Foran (piano), Kristen Berardi (voice) and Rafael Karlen (saxophone), have explored the powerful experiences and emotions contained in the correspondence of men and women involved in our military past. To commemorate the ANZAC legacy, they have crafted intensely moving and intimate works, using elements of jazz and folk music, to explore themes of hope, fear, separation, loss, love and conditions of war.

Highly awarded nationally and internationally as composers and performers, Sean Foran, Kristen Berardi and Rafael Karlen are all recongised as individuals for their clear personal aesthetic and artistic voice. As the BFK Trio, these strongly creative musicians bring to the stage a combined experience that is formidable.

Touring throughout Australia in October, November and December, the BFK Trio will bring their project and album release to a very intimate setting for their Gold Coast concert, on the Sunday of the Remembrance Day weekend. A private home at The Ecovillage in Currumbin Valley.

The Memory & Emotion Project will feature as part of a series of events, hosted at the home of Guy and Annette Lewington, over the month of November. This series of events has been especially curated, to marry in with a month-long exhibition by Gold Coast-based artist, Maki Horanai. A sublimely gifted and insightful painter, Maki also explores themes of hope, fear, loss, love and renewal. Her works touch on what makes us truly human. They ask us to question our spirituality, our compassion and our humanity.

The Memory & Emotion Project and series of events celebrating the art of Maki Horanai, are proudly presented by artemus. For more information about other events in the series, artist Maki Horanai and the BFK Trio, please visit:
